Zeus has had perfect health in his life, and would only go the vet for your average routine appointments. Over the last two years, we noticed after major activity he would limp. It would usually go away in an hour, or sometimes after a day.
However, on January 2nd, he came in the house after going potty and was limping horribly bad. My gut told me something was wrong. Sure enough I was right.
Turns out, sweet boy needed a TPLO. For those of us who are not vet people...it basically means he needs a knee replacement. For a dog his size, it can cost over $3,000.
GULP.
I totally broke down at the office. It was going to be so expensive, but I cried more that this would be the most painful, grueling surgery for my precious boy.
Long story short, he went into surgery the very same day. It was awful and sad for us. The vet place where he had his surgery was amazing and wonderful. He was in perfect hands. We were able to bring him home the next day. Here is a pic of my poor boy:
The bad...for the next 6-12 weeks, Zeus would basically have to be "sedated", meaning no jumping, running, basically he can't be a dog. Any crazy movement, would re-break his leg and they would have to re-do the surgery. For the next few weeks, it has been intense, stressful (due to trying to keep him calm) and super, crazy expensive due to Zeus developing an eye ulcer, and an infection of his wound, which meant more rounds of vet visits and costly meds (good bye spring break NYC trip and saving for a house). It is worth it, because our pup is our life.
It will be 7 weeks on Wednesday. We will have a x-ray visit this upcoming Friday. We are praying and crossing our fingers that they will give us a clean bill of health and we can be normal again. We are so hopeful. We want our boy to feel like himself again!
We love you sweet boy!!!
